Kendrick Lamar inducts N.W.A. into the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame

K. Dot and N.W.A. Icons of Compton. The creators of some the best bars in rap history. Legends of music. And bound by the same love.

Last night, Kendrick Lamar, 7 time Grammy winner, welcomed Compton legends-Eazy E, Dr.Dre, Ice Cube, Mc Ren and Dj Yella- into the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame, with a powerfull speech.

“Dj Yella Ye.Ah?Ah? Hip-hop, we in Compton. His personality, charisma not only poured out into the company that was around him, but it shown whenever he got behind the turntables in production, providing some of the illest breaks, cuts, scratching, that only the most elite – I said elite – Compton MCs can spit over, you dig that? ”

“Cube! Where y’all at? I said Ice Cube? Storytelling genius. Every bar had us hanging over our seats. Punchline, delivery, detailed imagery made you get just a small glimpse of how it was growing up in the city of Compton, you dig what I’m saying?”

“Doc Dre! Dr. Dre! The scientist! The perfectionist. The producer extraordinaire. My mentor, you dig what I’m saying? This dude here taught me a lot as far as never being satisfied with the work you do, on and off the record.”

These were some of the words of Kendrick, talking about one of the most influential music group of all times, one that inspired him during his youth, ad made him feel like :”every one of them was black superheroes”

The Nike basketball “Easter” collection is here

Once again, as expected, Nike celebrates the Easter with a fresh pack for their basketball signature shoes label. 4 models have been confirmed by the Nike representatives as of now: LeBron 13 “Easter”, Kobe 11 Elite low “Easter”, Kyrie 2 “Easter” and KD 8 “Easter”.

The four most representative Nike athletes in the basketball branch are expected to debut their new colorways at their first appearance, which in Kobe’s case is exactly on Easter day.

With the playoffs just around the corner, we should expect Nike to set up a brand new set of packs for their contenders along with Jordan as well as a response from Adidas regarding packs for its athletes.

Primeknit vs Flyknit. The knitted war

Adidas vs Nike . The ultimate facedown. The two icons in sport apparel have been in rivalry for tens of years, setting new rules for the game and creating innovations. And this is exactly what their latest signature materials have been doing in the world of sport for the last years. So let’s see what eachs has to offer.

When it comes to tehnology, each brand adopts a different approach. Nike’s Flyknit is based on stronger stitches on pressure points, while Primeknit is one piece of the same material knitted throughout the shoe and then heated to create a fuse-like texture. Originally, both materials were used for football and running shoes,  but were later used into other popular snickers like the Air Force 1 or the Adidas Superstar. As to performance, they share the same ups and downs,  perfect for breathability but horrible in the rain.

When it comes to looks, Nike has the upper hand, creating fabulous models for the Air Max, the Roshe’s and the Nike Free. Apparently, the iregulare texture has a bigger appeal for the public and blend in with the shoes silhouette.

As both the Primeknit and the Flyknit come for the same price,Nike seems to win the battle , adopting a far superior marketing strategy and promoting their products to the max. But we can be sure that Adidas still has something to say in the battle of the knits.

Yeezy shoes confirmed for April

Yet again, Yeezy Boost shoes will hit the stage. It is believed around April that notorious Yeezys will go down for the second time in 2016 after the Pirate black restock. However, the release date is unspecified along with the name of the product. There are speculations around the new Yeezy 750 Chocolate (which we’ve seen Kanye wearing at the store where he fell asleep and of which leaked photos were shown to the public) but it’s nothing official. Also, it could be another restock to one of the Yeezy collections, which would push the Chocolate Yeezy’s release up to summer.

The funny thing about these Yeezys is that, as I have mentioned, they don’t have any official release date : they might drop this April or in the summer; but a group of fanatic fans already starting camping in front of selected retailers in hope of sniping one of those. Nobody knows if they were too crazy about the new Yeezys or just misguided but Jimmy Kimmel did crack some jokes at their expense last night.

The start of the “Purpose” tour

Justin Bieber’s “Purpose” world tour – the most expected one of 2016 – began on 9th of March in Seattle. This is by far the most hyped tour of today and is expected to be a success, since Biebs’ latest album – “Purpose” – is full of hits and billboard toppers. As a matter of fact, the first concert of the tour, which was held in Seattle two days ago, aroused even more hype than we all expected because the show was fantastic and the special effects on stage were also on point. Justin’s performance, on the other hand, was downright impeccable and ,alongside his crew, they made a great show.

A lot of questions before the start of the tour were raised on what’s Justin Bieber going to wear during the shows. Karla Welch (Biebs’ stylist) did mention before that we’re going to see some Fear of God designs by Jerry Lorenzo along with some Raf Simons pieces and custom-made T-shirts. Justin Bieber will also be rocking Rick Owens, Saint Laurent and of course, his sponsors, Calvin Klein. Here are some images from the tour opener in Seattle:

After a fantastic opener, we can only assume that the best is still yet to come and with the tour being scheduled to end on November 29 at the O2 arena in London, Bieber still has to cross the USA, Canada and Europe for a total of 114 shows.

Best music festivals in 2016

Spring just started. And after a cold,long winter, summer’s on everybody minds. And as the warmth kicks in, so are the music festivals, which are getting more numerous from year to year, and also, more hyped. As Ultra Music Festival-the first major music event of the year- is about to take place from the 18 th of March, let’s line up some of the best places you should head to this year if you’re all about music.

Coachella Vallley Music and Arts Festival

One of the best known events in the world and a favourite destination for teenagers, Coachella is a landmark for US music festivals. Taking place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio California, Coachella has hosted a versatile array of artists over the time such as: Drake, AC/DC, Muse and many other.

Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts

Started in 1971, Glastonbury Festival is simply more then just a festival. Its a four day manifest for arts. With over 100 STAGES, the festival features thousands of artists and acts that light up the fields of Glastonbury and boast them with life. With a proud history, it hosted performances by artist such as: Kanye West, Rolling Stones, arcade Fire, Florence and the Machines, Foo Fighters, and many more, never disappointing the attendance.

Ultra Music Festival

Ultra Music Festival was founded in 1999 by Russel Faibisch and Alex Omes and is named after the 1997 Depeche Mode album “Ultra”. It was a one-day festival from 1999 to 2006, a two-day festival from 2007 to 2010, and was a three-day festival in 2011 and 2012 and had a record 155,000 people attendance in 2012.  Promoted as the top electronic music festival in the world, UMF manages to bring all the big names in EDM to stage every year, and is probably one of the reasons why electronic music festivals gained such a huge popularity.

Lollapalooza

A festival best known for its alternetive rock and hip-hop concerts ,Lollapalooza is one of the musical events that gained popularity not just in the US but also over the seas, Brazil, Chile and Israel also hosting the festival. Founded in 1991 by Perry Farrel, Lollapalooza was organised every year until 1997 and was revived in 2003.

Untold Music Festival

Started just last year, Untold Music Festival amazed the Music Festival stage when it featured names like Avicii, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Tinie Tempah and many other, in a 240,000 people  EDM madness. The festival was awarded “Best Major European Festival” in 2015.

 

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis crack it once again

Not many have had such an explosive breakthrough in the rap industry as Macklemore, being rewarded with 4 Grammy’s along with his DJ/producer Ryan Lewis on their first album: “The Heist”, which also topped Billboard 200 for several weeks. Now with their second studio album – “This Unruly Mess I’ve Made” – the duo have cracked the top 4 on Billboard 200 after just 1 week.

“This Unruly Mess I’ve Made” appeared to be a more serious album when it comes to its compositions and messages, unlike their previous one where singles like Thrift Shop, Can’t Hold Us and Same Love stormed into the Billboard hot 100 for their friendly to the public beats, topping also numerous radio charts worldwide. Tracks like “Kevin”, “White Privilege  II”, “Growing up”, “Light Tunnels” or “Buckshot” highlight a slightly more serious collection this time. However, the debut single of “The Unruly Mess I’ve Made”- “Downtown”-still has that typical Macklemore-esque beat for a fun track good for a dance off. The album features artists like Ed Sheeran, Leon Bridges, Chance the Rapper, Jamila Woods and many others.

Overall, the Seattle hip-hop duo nailed it once again with an album that will surely last some time on the charts and one which already shows good signs from the critics and the public.

 

Rick Owens new adidas Spring-Summer 2016 collection

Rick Owens, the famous clothes designer continues his collaboration with Adidas, in the new Spring-Summer 2016 collection. The Runners returns to the collection, featuring four new colors, keeping the same fresh silhouette. The  2016 unisex collection also features the superstar boot in tan and white and black and white, the clogs, and the Cargo sandals in olive green, all black and black and white. New Fire red’s scheduled

2016 has been a year so far already stocked of AJ 5 releases: :”Alternate ’90” and the “Dunk from above”. Still, Jordan have announced a fresh 2016 model of the Air Jordan 5 low “Fire red”.

After a preview back in November when some pictures have been leaked, the official ones came out. As a first impression, it is clear that these are made to last longer because of the minor, but important, color change on the lateral netting. Unlike the translucent netting, the black one is way more durable to dirt, scratches and yellowing (which was a bit of a case with the old model).

March 12 is the expected release date for the new AJ 5 low “Fire red” as it stands.
